The Alumni Scholarship Luncheon is not only a way to network with fellow alumni, but also the opportunity to give to this year’s new scholarship. Dean Schwartz announced the 2014 scholarship luncheon contributions will go towards establishing a student emergency fund scholarship. Dean Schwartz shares,  “About one month ago, I discovered that one of our December-graduating 3L students and her son are homeless. Having heard that other law schools and universities had emergency funds, I investigated the possibilities. Unfortunately, neither the law school nor the university has any available funds. (I did succeed in helping the student get a portion of her financial aid award early, and I convinced a bar review provider to donate her a free bar review course.) I have since discovered that many law schools have one, two or, in two instances, three  development funds designated for such emergencies. The funds are administered by a dean or an associate dean, who decides eligibility and amount of the loans, and the loans are given interest free. I would imagine that, if we are able to raise sufficient funds, the Bowen emergency fund would operate in a similar way.”

Tickets are $100 each, a table is $1,000 and sponsorships are available starting at $1,500. A portion of the ticket cost is tax-deductible. In addition to contributing to the student emergency fund scholarship, each person who purchases a ticket will be recognized on the Annual Giving Donor Wall located outside the Friday Courtroom.

If you can’t attend the luncheon, but would still like to contribute, please consider purchasing a fully tax-deductible student ticket. For more information regarding the luncheon and to purchase a ticket, email Amy Jackson.
