“How to Make a Living as a Lawyer”

Next Wednesday, October 15, Bowen is launching a new effort to bring top-notch lawyers and judges into the law school in a way that will allow our students unique access to these legal superstars. The first event of the new program, the Distinguished Practitioners-in-Residence Speaker Series, will feature a dynamic presentation by two local, legendary attorneys: Dick Williams (Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates, & Woodyard) and Phil Kaplan (Williams & Anderson).

Mr. Williams and Mr. Kaplan’s session, “How to Make a Living as a Lawyer,” will be 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., October 15, in the Friday Courtroom. The speakers have told us to encourage students to come and go at their convenience. Light food will be provided; among other things, I am baking and bringing home-made brownies.

The law school designed the Distinguished Practitioner-in-Residence Speaker Series as part of a larger effort to increase the opportunities for our students to interact with members of the bench and bar. Through this program, we will bring in experienced, successful members of the bench and bar to make presentations on topics within their areas of expertise and of interest to our students.

Their topic, of course, is a critical one. It is never too early to start thinking about your career plans, and these two gentlemen will be sharing the secrets of their success. This event is therefore an excellent opportunity to get some great advice and meet two gentlemen known by just about every lawyer in Arkansas.

Please find time to stop by. Excellent student attendance will let our speakers know that we value their time and commitment.
