Trial teams excel in competition

On February 7th and 8th, two teams from the UALR William H. Bowen School of Law competed in the Region 11 Trial Team Competition in Lexington, Kentucky. Twenty-six teams competed representing the following law schools: UALR Bowen, UA Fayetteville, University of Missouri-Kansas City, University of Missouri-Columbia, St. Louis University, Washington University of St. Louis, St. Louis, University of Memphis, University of Tennessee, Vanderbilt University, Belmont University, University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, and Northern Kentucky.

The team of Hannah Wood, Claire Hyatt, and Megan Dauksch finished tied for sixth.

The team of Sydney Brown and Jacob Franklin won the entire competition, defeating the host school, the University of Kentucky. Sydney and Jacob’s team is the Overall Regional Champion.  They will compete in the national finals in Houston, Texas.

Both teams have been practicing every weekend since December 27, including twelve full trials.  Professor Michael Johnson and Trial Skills adjunct instructor Hugh Finkelstein were instrumental in preparing the teams for competition. The following judges also supported the teams by covering practice sessions: Judge Herb Wright, Judge Morgan “Chip” Welch, Judge Cathi Compton. Judge Leon Johnson, Judge Tim Fox, Judge Mary McGowan, and former Acting Judge Chris Palmer
