Student Animal Legal Defense Fund

The SALDF works to educate the Bowen community about the importance of animal rights. The Student Animal Legal Defense Fund (SALDF) is a group of law students dedicated to fighting to protect the lives and advance the interests of animals through the legal system. We strive to promote stronger enforcement of anti-cruelty laws and more humane treatment of animals in every corner of American life and to push the U.S. legal system to end the suffering of abused animals. Our goal is to enrich legal advocacy for animals through sharing ideas, knowledge, and practical skills, as well as providing educational and networking opportunities for members and the community.

2017-2018 Officers

  • President: Jalen Toms
  • Vice President: Presley Hager
  • Treasurer: Madison Pitts

Events: Last year we worked with Paws in Prison and attended a banquet at the Governor’s Mansion. We also worked with members of the community to prevent the passing of a bill restricting anti-animal cruelty bills and squashing an ag-gag bill by attending several meetings at the Capitol.  Finally, we co-sponsored the Animal Law CLE and helped to make it the most successful Animal Law CLE at Bowen ever. This year we will be doing many new and exciting activities as well as co-sponsoring the Animal Law CLE again.
