Lexis Nexis Academic

LexisNexis Academic, a popular resource for newspaper and legal information, made several changes to its search interface in late December.  While all the information previously offered on the front page is still available, different means of searching are required to access it.

  • The Search by Content Type button will offer a pop-up window similar to the box that previously appeared on the left side of the screen, allowing specific categories such as federal /state courts, company profiles, or biographical information.
  • Advanced searching now requires the selecting of the Advanced Options box to restrict by publication title or a date range.  And any selection made within the box must be applied before the search is run.
  • Video tutorials for the database are now offered from a menu on the left side of the screen.

While content has not changed, it may take some practice to develop search results like those obtained with the previous search screens.
