During spring semester, 225 students participated in Project SAILS (Standard Assessment of Information Literacy Skills). Ottenheimer Library sponsored the assessment as a campus initiative to measure the research abilities and information literacy skills of UALR undergraduates.

The Project SAILS assessment is a knowledge test with multiple-choice questions targeting a variety of information literacy skills. The test items are based on the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education. Additional information on the test is available at the library’s Project SAILS page.

A complete report of the results of the assessment, including comparisons of the scores of UALR students to students at other universities will be available this summer. Below is summary information of the students participating in the assessment. Thanks to all our participants.

The InTouch Interactive Table will be on display and available for testing throughout May. The library plans to purchase five of these tables for second floor study area this fall. The tables are specifically designed to facilitate groups working with technology. The tables allow students to plug in up to four laptops or tablets and share the screen content with the other members of their work group.

The addition of the tables is only one of many improvements coming to the second floor area for fall. Renovation of areas vacated by the move of UALR’s Arkansas archival collections and staff to the Arkansas Studies Institute in downtown Little Rock will also provide public restrooms and more group study space.

The funds will be used to renovate areas vacated by the move of UALR’s Arkansas archival collections and staff to the Arkansas Studies Institute in downtown Little Rock The library’s goal is to transform the now empty space into an area that enhances the learning and research experiences of students.

Throughout April, the library is sponsoring a “Write on the Wall” campaign to solicit student ideas for creating a technology-rich space that best meets student needs. A wall that will be coming down to make room for additional student space has been covered with paper for students to write in their suggestions. The paper will remain on the wall through the month of April, after which the wall will be removed as the first phase of the 2nd floor renovation.
