Richard Clark is a native of Little Rock, and attended Rice University , Little Rock Junior College, and the University of Arkansas School of Medicine, where he was awarded the M.D. degree in 1958 . Dr. Clark is a retired anesthesiologist, and spent most of his career focused on obstetrical anesthesia. He retired in 1996, and holds the rank of Professor Emeritus. He is one of the six founders of the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (1968 ) , an international association of persons interested in obstetric anesthesia .  He was SOAP President in 1985, and instituted the Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology Endowment Fund, which boasts assets of almost $500,000 . He was inducted into the University of Arkansas College of Medicine Hall of Fame in 2012. Dr. Clark and his wife Nancy have four children and five grandchildren;  all but one live in Arkansas . Even before he retired he utilized the facilities of UALR, studying Observational Astronomy, German, and Wine Tasting. Since his retirement he has continued his study of German, becoming almost semi-fluent. Dr. Clark is very active in the Pulaski County Historical Society, and has published in the PCHS Review several times. His academic, intellectual, and recreational activities are very much enhanced by the Ottenheimer Library and he participates in fund raising and advancing the library.
