The UALR Center for Literacy is proud to sponsor the annual K-8 Comprehensive Literacy and Reading Recovery Academy. This premier event takes place on October 27-28 at the Marriott Hotel in Little Rock, Arkansas. The Literacy Academy is designed to enhance educators’ expertise for implementing a comprehensive literacy approach to school improvement. This year’s theme, Changing Minds, Changing Schools, emphasizes the link between instruction, scaffolding, and higher-level thinking. On Monday morning, Linda Dorn sets the conference theme with her keynote, “Shaping Literate Minds: A Closer Look at Meaning” and on Tuesday morning, Barbara Schubert continues the theme with a closer look at implications from cognitive neuroscience for teaching struggling readers. Across the two days, 25 breakout sessions are organized under five broad strands: Classroom Literacy, Comprehensive Intervention Model (CIM), Reading Recovery, Literacy Leadership, and Special Topics (including Dyslexia and Special Education). At the end of the academy, participants will leave with a deeper understanding of the ‘change process’ as this relates to children, teachers, and schools.

A wide variety of breakout
