Composition I & Cultural Anthropology

Composition I: RHET 1311-14, MWF 11:00-11:50, George Jensen

Composition I will be segmented into four modules. With each module, the assignments will build knowledge on a topic related to the study of culture and culminate in a formal essay. The topics will supplement material covered in Cultural Anthropology; however, Composition I will focus on using those topics to learn how to research, write, and document academic essays.

Cultural Anthropology: ANTH 2316-01, MWF 10:00-10:50, Simon Hawkins

Cultural Anthropology examines the methods and techniques for understanding a culture and then conveying that understanding to others. Readings will be of real anthropological texts rather than a survey text book, and will address topics such as romance and marriage, globalization, community formation, and social identity, as they vary across cultures. Because the only way to understand a topic is to do it, students design, carry out, and write up original research.

Note: Both courses fulfill university core requirements.
