The ARK-LSAMP staff is managed by a dedicated core group of UALR faculty and staff.
Dr. Janet Lanza is a Professor of Biology at UALR and is the co-director for ARK-LSAMP and the University Science Scholars Program.¬† Her field of expertise is ecology, with research emphasis in plant-animal interactions.¬† She is also active in developing inquiry methods of teaching. ¬†She has been elected to the Phi Kappa Phi education honor society.
Dr. Jim Winter is co-director for ARK-LSAMP and the University Science Scholars Program.¬† His appointment at UALR is in the Graduate Institute of Technology as director of the Arkansas STRIVE Program.¬† His field of expertise is aquatic ecology with research emphasis in radio telemetry and lake management.¬† He is also active in promoting inquiry methods of teaching. ¬†He has been elected to the Phi Kappa Phi education honor society.
Ms. Erin Cates is the Program Coordinator and Student Support Specialist for LSAMP. ¬†She has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from UALR and has worked on campus for seven years, including two years as the Student Development Specialist in the College of Science dean’s office. ¬†She also worked in the Psychiatric Research Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) for two years as a program coordinator and data management specialist. ¬†She knows current academic policies and procedures (i.e., admissions, advising, registration, and degree requirements). ¬†Her duties include advising and guidance, event coordination, program correspondence, and data management.
Other members of the ARK-LSAMP staff are Dr. Zuma Toro, Provost¬†at UALR and principal investigator for the LSAMP program,¬†and Mr. Vernard Henley, Director of Outreach Education and Diversity for the Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology.
