The ARK-LSAMP staff is managed by a dedicated core group of UALR faculty and staff.
Dr. Janet Lanza is a Professor of Biology at UALR and is the co-director for ARK-LSAMP and the University Science Scholars Program. Her field of expertise is ecology, with research emphasis in plant-animal interactions. She is also active in developing inquiry methods of teaching. She has been elected to the Phi Kappa Phi education honor society.
Dr. Jim Winter is co-director for ARK-LSAMP and the University Science Scholars Program. His appointment at UALR is in the Graduate Institute of Technology as director of the Arkansas STRIVE Program. His field of expertise is aquatic ecology with research emphasis in radio telemetry and lake management. He is also active in promoting inquiry methods of teaching. He has been elected to the Phi Kappa Phi education honor society.
Ms. Erin Cates is the Program Coordinator and Student Support Specialist for LSAMP. She has a Bachelor of Science in Biology from UALR and has worked on campus for seven years, including two years as the Student Development Specialist in the College of Science dean’s office. She also worked in the Psychiatric Research Institute at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) for two years as a program coordinator and data management specialist. She knows current academic policies and procedures (i.e., admissions, advising, registration, and degree requirements). Her duties include advising and guidance, event coordination, program correspondence, and data management.
Other members of the ARK-LSAMP staff are Dr. Zuma Toro, Provost at UALR and principal investigator for the LSAMP program, and Mr. Vernard Henley, Director of Outreach Education and Diversity for the Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology.
