Admission requirements
The first step in the admission process is to complete an application for admission to the UALR Graduate School. This application can be completed online at the UALR Graduate School website. Additional admission requirements for the Master of Arts in Counseling with emphasis in Rehabilitation Counseling are as follows:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education
- Completed application to UALR’s Graduate School
- Interview, in person or by telephone, with a program faculty member or a designated representative in the Rehabilitation Counseling Program
In addition to the requirments above, one of the four requirements below must be met to be admitted into the Rehabilitation Counseling Program.
- Overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher, or 3.25 in the last 60 hours
- The following minimum scores on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE): at least 440 on the verbal and at least 560 on the Quantitative Scales.
- A scaled score of at least 391 on the Miller Analogies Test
- Employed rehabilitation counselors only may submit a satisfactory portfolio of academic and professional work for evaluation by the Rehabilitation Counseling Program Admissions Committee, if none of the other admission standards are met.
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
A student not qualifying for regular admission based on undergraduate grade point may be admitted to the UALR Rehabilitation Counseling Program on a conditional basis. In order to be conditionally admitted the student must have successfully completed a minimum of 9 semester hours with a grade of B or better in each course from a relevant graduate program at UALR or another regionally accredited institution. Conditional admission also means that the student must make a grade of B or better in the first 12 hours taken in the UALR Rehabilitation Counseling curriculum.
