Faculty Grants

The UALR Middle Eastern Studies Program is inviting UALR full-time faculty to apply for UALR Middle Eastern Studies grant to support their activities and scholarship in the area of Middle Eastern Studies. The grant will pay up to $3,000 and will be reviewed on competitive basis by the Middle Eastern Studies Committee.  Part-time (adjunct) faculty of UALR can apply for small grants of up to $500. Their application process is the same as for full time faculty.

UALR faculty are encouraged to think creatively about the activities for which the grants could pay.  Any academic project related to any aspect of the Middle East or Middle Eastern Studies is applicable.  Scholars from all academic disciplines are encouraged to apply.

Please submit a detailed letter of application together with a c.v. to

In your letter describe how your activities would fit into your coherent agenda of scholarship and how, thanks to the grant, you could contribute to the advancement of Middle Eastern Studies Program at UALR.  Include a preliminary budget and state the amount (up to $3000) that you are asking for. A commitment to teach a course on a topic pertaining to Middle Eastern studies backed by a letter from a departmental chair is not required, but would substantially increase your chance of being funded. The committee might also ask you to appear in person to talk about your plans to contribute to the Middle Eastern Studies program at UALR.  Applications from faculty who have not received MEST faculty grants in the past will be given priority.

The deadline for applications is December 1, 2014. Faculty will be notified about the decision no later than January 1, 2015.  Grants can be used anytime during the 2013 calendar year.

The standard policy for grants is that set institutional reimbursable fees can be paid in advance, but travel costs and other contingent costs are normally reimbursed upon submission of receipts after the activity has been completed.  If the grant is not used during the grant period, it will be lost, but you may reapply.
