Urban Studies & Design Projects

Main Street Little Rock

The Main Street Plan was created in 2001 with financial support from the City of Little Rock and The Downtown Partnership. It is a detailed urban design plan of Main Street as a follow-up to the general plan, The Corridors Study, developed previously. The Corridors Study focused on six important corridors through the core downtown area, one of which being Main Street.

The detailed Main Street Plan recognizes the division of the street created by the interstate highway I-630 construction of the 1980’s by referring to the street north of the highway as Downtown Main and south as South Main. The graphics included are copies of the summary document of the plan and are described as:

1. The overall plan of the street from Markham Street to Roosevelt Road
2. Background and history of the street
3. Urban design proposals for Downtown Main Street
4. Urban design proposals for South Main Street

The complete Main Street Plan is a bound 11 X 17 inch, color, 33 page document and available for viewing at the downtown offices of the UALR Urban Policy Forum, 407 Clinton Avenue, Little Rock, AR. Call for a schedule to view the plan 320-5780.

Additional work was completed for the Downtown Blocks of Main Street from Markham to I-630. This planning document describes and analyzes each block with recommendations for redevelopment. It is also available for viewing at the Urban Policy Forum. Plans for it’s posting on this web site are underway currently.
