The flagship ensemble of the UALR choral program, this auditioned 28-40 voice choir is open by competitive audition to all UALR students, faculty, and staff. The members of this choir come not only from the Music Department, but from across many academic disciplines. This ensemble performs 4-7 concerts per semester for audiences ranging from the general public to guests at elite events.
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Concert Choir performs a wide variety of distinctive choral literature chosen from all periods of music history, both a cappella and accompanied. The Concert Choir often performs major works with the UALR Community Chorus and members of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. Its past joint performances have included such works as Handel’s Messiah, Rutter’s Mass for the Children, Haydn’s Te Deum, and Mozart’s Requiem Mass K626; last season’s performances included a repertoire of English sacred music and Puccini’sMessa di Gloria (both December 2012) and selections from Bach’s Mass in B Minor in An Evening of Bach (April 2013).
This ensemble performs on campus and in the community, and its members tour the state, the nation, and internationally. The Concert Choir has performed the national anthem in UALR’s Jack Stephens Arena, has performed chorus roles in Copland’s opera The Tender Land, and performed with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra in My Fair Lady(2007), Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony (2012), and Verdi’s Requiem(March 2014). In 2009, the choir performed on a concert tour in Canada; it toured Houston in summer 2012 and Chicago in summer 2013.
Note: Grant-in-aid is available to members of this ensemble. Membership in Concert Choir fulfills voice scholarship requirements for participation in a major choral ensemble.
