Ferris AllenBefore joining the faculty of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, baritone Ferris Allen taught at Indiana University and Wabash College. More recently, he was Visiting Professor of Singing at Oberlin Conservatory. Allen has performed with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, Opera in the Rock, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, the Teatro Colón, American Opera Theater, Aspen Opera Theater, the Juilliard Opera Center/Theater, BAM, and Apollo’s Fire. A frequent collaborator with living composers, his portrayal of Jules in William Bolcom’s opera, A Wedding, was praised by Opera News as one the most “enjoyable,” “subtle” and “best acted” performances of opening night. Dr. Allen first studied vocal performance at Oberlin Conservatory and the Juilliard School. At Indiana University, he was offered the first Jacobs Fellowship, given upon the renaming of the music school as the Barbara and David Jacobs School of Music. His students at UALR have performed leading operatic roles in venues of local and national renown, have won multiple state and regional voice competitions, and have gained acceptance to graduate, artist diploma, and apprenticeship programs from coast-to-coast.
