Creative Work by Dr. Robert Boury
Over the past thirty-five years at UALR, I have served as Composer In Residence, writing original works for faculty and students in Music, Theatre and Dance. Most recently, my new Trombone Sonata was premiered by Arkansas Symphony Principal trombonist, Michael Underwood who commissioned the work. In January, 2016, he and pianist Norman Boehm performed the Sonata at Pulaski Heights Methodist Church.
My other major new works have largely been in works for opera theatre and incidental music for theater productions.
2012-15 Composed the third of a trilogy of children’s operas, “The Raspberry War” with librettist, Madeleine St. Romain. Premiered while in residence at Utah State University, in Logan, UT, November, 2015.
2011 Appointed Resident Composer to the Chotard Institute in Little Rock, while composing his third children’s opera for the ensemble. His previous opera,“Seastruck”, was premiered in May by the Institute.
2009-10 Created incidental music for UALR Theatre productions of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and Beckett’s Endgame.
2008 As Resident Composer at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Robert Boury Served as Visiting Composer at Franklin Elementary school, and completed his sabbatical project, a Children’s Opera for young voices at the Chotard Institute in Little Rock, “Grandmother Spider”.
