Vocal Arts

Curriculum

The Vocal Arts curriculum includes:

  • Group Voice Instruction – These courses are intended to introduce the student to the basic skills necessary to succeed as a singer in UALR’s music program. Musicianship, vocal technique, languages, and repertoire are taught in a group setting.
  • Private Voice Lessons – Private lessons offer the student more intensive training in breath support, vocal range-building, tone production, and vocal repertoire. Voice majors take a one-hour lesson weekly, which includes an accompanist.
  • Diction Classes – UALR offers singer’s diction courses in four major languages (English, French, Italian, and German) and introduces students to the International Phonetic Alphabet. These courses combine academic learning with performing practicums.
