Arkansas’s new premier vocal group, the UALR Chamber Choir, is an 8-12 member auditioned chamber ensemble open only to advanced students. Members must demonstrate exceptional reading and aural skills, as well as the ability to sing in various styles (vibrato and senza vibrato). This small ensemble performs repertoire from various eras, including compositions from the Renaissance to the Contemporary periods, without a conductor. The Chamber Choir will perform 4-7 times per semester, often sharing concerts with the UALR Concert Choir; it will tour the state of Arkansas, as well as nationally and internationally.

The Chamber Choir made its public debut on November 20, 2008 at the Stella Boyle Smith concert hall, performing Britten’s Introit from Ceremony of Carols, Sweelinck’s Hodie Christus Natus Est, Palestrina’s Alma Redemptoris Mater, Fissinger’s Ave Regina Caelorum, Darke’s In the Bleak Midwinter, and Courtney’s Hear the Lamb A-Crying.

Note: Grant-in-aid is available to members of this ensemble.  Membership in Chamber Choir fulfills voice scholarship requirements for participation in a major choral ensemble.
