Messiah Soloist Auditions

Update (November 22, 2009):

Dr. Keating has announced the soloist assignments for this concert.

Sopranos:  Melanie Chapman and Sarah Jane Kershaw

Altos:  Jennifer Boccarossa and Satia Spencer

Tenor:  James Wafford III

Basses:  Beau Humble and Phillip Murray

Congratulations to the successful auditioners, and thanks to all who participated in the audition process!

All members of the UALR Concert Choir, Community Chorus, Chamber Choir, and Second Presbyterian Church choirs are invited to audition for soloist roles in our upcoming performance of Handel’s Messiah. This work includes solo parts for soprano, alto, tenor, and bass voices.

Depending upon the range of performances at the auditions, one singer may be chosen for all of the solo parts assigned to that voice, or the solos may be divided among several singers. If you plan to audition, prepare all movements for that voice part.

Audition procedure:

Auditions will be held Thursday, November 19 between 4:00 and 6:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall.

All auditions are by appointment only. Please email Dr. Bevan Keating at to secure an audition time.

No coaching or part training will take place during the audition; you are responsible for knowing the part when you arrive. At your scheduled time, you will enter the concert hall, sing from the movements you have prepared, and then be dismissed. You do not need to have memorized the part; you may use your score both during the audition and in the concert itself.
