Fall Semester Approaches as Resident Hall Students Arrive
Beginning Thursday, Aug. 16, more than 600 excited students will begin moving into UALR residence halls for the start of the fall semester on Monday, Aug. 20. Deborah Gentry, director of UALR’s suite-style East Hall and apartment-style North Hall and South Hall, reports full occupancy for all buildings.
A series of special events to welcome students include a cookout on Thursday, karoke on Friday, “Meet the Trojans” event at the Stephens Events Center on Saturday, and a dodge ball tournament in the DSC Fitness Center on Sunday evening. On Sunday, the UALR Alumni Association will sponsor a fiesta-style brunch and get-together for the new residents.
Last year, UALR doubled its number of resident beds with the opening of North and South halls, offering two- and four-bedroom apartment-style living with full kitchens, full-size washers and dryers, high-speed Internet, and cable TV connections.
East Hall offers two-room suites with kitchenettes. All three halls are connected by breezeways to University Commons community building, which features mail boxes, a convenience store offering hot snacks, indoor and outdoor lounging areas, a computer lab, pool table, and a media room with a 110-inch television screen.
A 55-foot clock tower atop the Commons building includes a carillon that marks the hour with its 23-bell chimes, adding an audible sense of community for the campus.
