PRSA Awards Prism to ‘UALR Magazine’

UALR’s Office of Communications won the Arkansas Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America’s Prism award for 2007 issues of the “UALR Magazine” in the printed periodicals category at a ceremony Thursday at the Governor’s Mansion.

PRSA’s annual awards program recognizes outstanding public relations work during the year. The Prism is the top award given.

The purpose of the magazine is to discuss current issues and trends in higher education that are vital to the community, region, state, and world. Each publication focuses on a “big picture” issue and includes UALR programs and initiatives that relate to the topic.

The first issue released in spring 2003 examined central Arkansas’ potential as a technology hub. Other issues offered a retrospective on Winthrop Rockefeller, health initiatives, regionalism, and Little Rock’s growing high-tech economic cluster.

The Prism went to the fall/winter 2007 edition highlighting the connection of strong arts communities and universities and how they are integral to a thriving regional economy.

The issue was designed to drive readers from the slick magazine to an electronic version on the web with expanded content, including photo galleries, slideshows, audio, video and links to related topics. The fall/winter site had more than 1,400 absolute unique visitors with more than 6,700 page views by readers in 93 cities.

College and university boards, faculty, staff, civic club and chamber of commerce members, high school counselors, city and county officials, community partners, state education officials, and economic development agencies receive copies of the magazine.

The next issue of the UALR Magazine will be released later this summer with a theme of global education.
