UALR Grad Lands Bioinformatics Job with Yale
Phil Williams, who holds a UALR master’s degree in instrumentation and a joint degree from UALR and UAMS in bioinformatics, has been hired by Yale University School of Medicine’s new Center for High-Throughput Biology at Yale’s new west campus, formerly the site of Bayer Pharmaceuticals.
Williams, who graduated from Violet Hills High School, will be working for a team headed by Dr. James E. Rothman, one of the world’s leading cell biologists.
At the new Yale Center for High-Throughput Cell Biology, William is helping multidisciplinary teams of Yale scientists develop tools and techniques to rapidly decipher the cellular functions of the 25,000 known protein-coding genes in the human genome, providing fresh insights into disease and identifying new molecular targets for therapy.
“Phil’s selection for this crucial job of calibrating sensitive instruments used in cancer research is a testament to the quality of instruction and research being conducted at UALR as well as UAMS,” said Dr. Mary Good, dean of the Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology.
