Nursing Scholarships – Current Students

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Department of Nursing is proud to offer the following scholarship applications.  Please review the criteria and applications for each scholarship.  Scholarships are limited to current UA-Little Rock Nursing students.  Students may apply for all scholarships for which they are eligible.  Please only submit one application at a time.  For additional information contact Ms. Debra Cote at (501) 569-8092 or email darurup@ualr.edu .

Dr. Irving J. and Marie Sptizberg Transition Award

Award: Monetary award in the memory of Dr. Irving J. Sptizberg, a long-time Little Rock physician, and in honor of his wife, Marie S. Spitzberg.  Awarded to a graduating transition student with the highest Grade Point Average in nursing courses.

Dr. Irving J. and Marie Sptizberg Traditional Award

Award: Monetary award in the memory of Dr. Irving J. Sptizberg, a long-time Little Rock physician, and in honor of his wife, Marie S. Spitzberg.  Awarded to a graduating traditional student with the highest Grade Point Average in nursing courses.

Dr. Irving J. and Marie Sptizberg Combination Award

Award: Monetary award in the memory of Dr. Irving J. Sptizberg, a long-time Little Rock physician, and in honor of his wife, Marie S. Spitzberg.  Awarded to a graduating student who best exemplifies combination of academic accomplishments and achievement in public service to the larger community.

Corrine Phillips Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a full or part-time student majoring in nursing.  Selection will be based on academic accomplishment and financial need.

Hazel Kreigbaum Russ Nursing Scholarship

Awarded to full or part-time student student majoring in nursing.  Selection will be based on academic accomplishment and financial need.

Patricia P. and George E. Thompson, Jr. Endowed Scholarship

This award is in honor of Patricia P. Thompson, Professor Emeritus UALR Department of Nursing and in memory of her husband, George E. Thompson, Jr.  Awarded to a student completing their first year of nursing coursework.  Financial need is strongly considered.  Students cannot have a prior degree in other areas.

Florence C. Zook Endowed Scholarship

Presented in memory of Mrs. Zook, a dedicated registered nurse whose professional career exemplified compassion and caring. Awarded to a first year nursing student with above average nursing Grade Point Average and demonstrating a strong financial need.

Flora Mae Griffey Scholarship

In memory of Flora Mae Griffey.  Awarded to a first year nursing student who demonstrates strong financial need and academic excellence and is not eligible for other scholarships.
