FAQs

General FAQs

The Department of Nursing is located in the Engineering, Technology, and Sciences (ETAS) building on the fourth floor, Room 405.  The ETAS building is the five story red brick building on the hill across from the Fine Arts building. What degrees does the UALR Department of Nursing offer?
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) that prepares graduates to sit for the NCLEX (RN exam) and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing completion degree that enables working RNs and recent associate or diploma graduates to continue their nursing education.

Do I have to take a test to be admitted to the Nursing program?
Only if you are applying to the ASN program or are requesting to be readmitted. Applicants to the ASN must take the Evolve A2 Admission test prior to the application deadline. In addition to the A2, paramedics must take the Excelsior Fundamentals of Nursing Exam.

Who are the advisors in the Nursing program?
An Academic Counselor and the full-time faculty who teach in each respective program provide advising for Nursing majors.

I heard Nursing is a hard major, is that true?
Yes. Nursing requires that you retain content/information from semester to semester, dedicate sufficient time to study and preparation and be able to think critically. You should expect to study two hours each week for each credit hour of nursing. If you do not dedicate sufficient time and effort to study and preparation you will not be successful in nursing.

Does the Nursing department need official copies of my transcripts when I apply?
No. We do not need official transcripts, copies of your transcripts are sufficient. The UALR Admissions and Records office, however, DOES need official copies of your transcripts for admission to the university.

Do I have to apply to UALR for admission? If I am admitted to UALR am I admitted to the Nursing program too?
If you are not already admitted to UALR, you should apply to UALR at the same time you apply to the Department of Nursing. Admission to UALR and Nursing are two separate processes. If you are admitted to UALR it does not mean you are admitted to Nursing, nor does admission to Nursing mean you are admitted to UALR.

Where do I park when I come for my advising?
Lot 13 on 28th street is across from the Reynolds Business Building next to the Jack Stephens Center.  Parking is also available on the parking deck located on the back side of campus towards Fairpark Ave.
