Last Chance for Griffey Scholarship - 2nd Year Nursing Students!!

This is the last chance to submit applications for the Flora Mae Griffey Scholarship.  This scholarship awards $2000 in financial assistance for second year UALR nursing students. 

This award will be based on GPA with primary consideration being financial need.  A writing sample should be submitted with this application.  Qualified students must submit a completed application and writing sample to Ms. Lee Bailey in the Department of Nursing by Wednesday, August 17.

Walker Scholarship Applications now being accepted

The UALR Department of Nursing is now accepting applications for the Willard and Pat Walker Nursing Scholarship.  This scholarship will be available to several first year nursing students. 

The Willard and Pat Walker Scholarships are awarded to full-time students majoring in the nursing program. Award will be based on academic record and financial need. A writing sample should be submitted with the application. Total award is $8000 ($2000 per nursing semester).

Qualified nursing students must submit a complete application along with their writing sample to Ms. Lee Bailey in the Department of Nursing (ETAS 405) by 5:00 p.m. Friday, July 22.

Dr. Schlumberger elected to serve on the NLNAC Board

Dr. Ann Schlumberger has been elected to serve on the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. The NLNAC is responsible for the specialized accreditation for nursing education programs. NLNAC supports the interests of nursing education, nursing practice, and the public by the functions of accreditation. The NLNAC is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and accredits over 20 nursing schools in Arkansas. 

Dr. Schlumberger has served as Chairperson of the Department of Nursing at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock since 1997 and has been a faculty member at UALR since 1987.

BSN Applications due Oct. 1 for Spring Admission

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) completion program offers RN graduates of either an associate of science or a diploma program an avenue to pursue an advanced degree while continuing employment. The course work for the BSN completion program builds on the curriculum foundation of the core Registered Nurse program.

 BSN Application Form

  1. Be admitted or readmitted to UALR
  2. Hold current, unencumbered license as a registered nurse
  3. Be graduate of an associate of science or diploma RN program accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission or graduation from a basic RN program outside the United States.
  4. Earn grade C or better in a minimum of 12 credit hours of applicable general education courses beyond the associate
    of science or diploma
  5. Hold full or part-time employment as a registered nurse
  6. Obtain academic advising from the Department of Nursing.
  7. Submit a completed BSN application form to the department.

Exception: Nursing Health Assessment (NURS 3400) may be completed during enrollment in the final semester of an accredited associate degree or diploma RN program. Applicants from other programs must have an application on file within the department in order to be eligible for enrollment in NURS 3400.

College Algebra Prerequisite for Chemistry

Starting this fall, CHEM 1400 Fundamentals of Chemistry will require students to complete MATH 1302 College Algebra.  Be aware MATH 1315 will no longer be accepted.  Nursing students are advised to enroll and complete MATH 1302 College Algebra prior to enrolling in nursing courses.

UALR Prof. Appointed to the Board of Directors for National Nursing Organization

Dr. Preston Molsbee has been appointed to the National Organization of Associate Degree Nursing (N-OADN).  N-OADN is recognized nationally as the voice for Associate Degree nursing, representing agencies and individual members. They are dedicated to enhancing the quality of Associate Degree nursing education, strengthening the professional role of the Associate Degree nurse, and protecting the future of Associate Degree nursing in the midst of health care changes.

Dr. Molsbee is the current President for the Arkansas Chapter of N-OADN and will be starting his seventh year teaching at UALR.  Congratulations Dr. Molsbee!

DRUG SCREENING - CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS

The UALR Department of Nursing will require clear annual criminal background checks and negative drug screenings of all unconditionally admitted ASN students effective with the Fall 2011 entry class.

Students will be required to order the Certified Background Documents package and Immunization tracker as required items for participation in the ASN program.

BSN Students Take UALR Research to State Conference

We are pleased to announce the ongoing professional progress of our BSN graduating students at the Arkansas State Nurses 97th Annual Convention (ARNA):

Michele Frost – disseminated her research poster at UALR during the Undergraduate Research Expo. She is now presenting a podium presentation during the ARNA convention (Oct 22 & 23).

Joyce Diemer and Jennifer Bowe presented their first poster during the UALR Undergraduate Research Expo.  They then submitted an abstract to ARNA and have been selected to disseminate this information at the statewide ARNA convention as a podium presentation.

BSN faculty continue to encourage students to submit research posters at UALR Undergraduate EXPO - which leads to professional growth and networking.
