Research Cluster Seed Grant Competition Winners

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs is pleased to announce the winners of the second Research Cluster Seed Grant Competition, an initiative designed to encourage project collaborations among faculty and staff across campus. The competition offered two, two-year, $50,000 grants ($25,000 per year) to expand scholarship and to fund multi-disciplinary, innovative projects that can effectively compete for extramural funding in the future.

The submitted grant proposals received two reviews: one by external reviewers and one by a team appointed by the Vice Provost for Research.

Please join us in congratulating the following two faculty teams for their selection as the recipients of the Research Cluster Seed Grants:

  1. Project Title: “Doped Nanocarbons for Sustainable Energy and Water Purification”
  • Tito Viswanathan, Professor of Chemistry and Associate Dean of the College of Arts, Letters, and Sciences
  • Brian Berry, Associate Professor of Chemistry
  • Nawab Ali, Associate Professor of Biology
  • Allan Thomas, Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy
  1. Project Title: “The Impact of Neighborhood Context on Recidivism among Offenders in Arkansas”
  • Tusty ten Bensel, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice
  • Michael Craw, Assistant Professor, Institute of Government

Thank you to everyone who submitted a proposal. We encourage all UALR faculty and staff to consult with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs to find the assistance and resources you need to make your pursuit of extramural funding successful.
