English Microlab helps develop
the overall grammar skills of the writer. It intuitively teaches
the writer to better construct their sentences with its many tutorials,
and tests them of their knowledge in many grammar fields. It is
a great tool for both the novice and advanced writer.
When the writer begins the Microlab, it will
prompt them with a welcome
message, as well as the option to press the Next on the bottom
right of the window. Above the window are pull-down menus that list
the main features of the program - File, Module, Section,
and Help. The writer has the option of pressing the Next
button, which brings them to the Complete Sentences tutorial, or
selecting an option from one of the pull-down menus.
Below are most of the menu items presented
within the pull-down menus.
File - Scoring On, Print Score, Quit
Module - Assessment
Test, Complete Sentences, Distinct Sentences, Orderly Sentences,
Subject-Verb Agreement, Pronoun Choice, Commas, Apostrophes, Semicolons
and Colons, Parentheses and Dashes, Quotation Marks and Italics,
Capitalization, Quick Check Test
Section - Review, Recognizing Errors (A - C), Repairing Errors
(A - C), Mastery Test

The first step the writer must perform is to turn the scoring
on. If this is not done, their test score(s) will not be recorded,
and they will be unable to print their score after completing a
test.
Select File from the pull-down menu
Select Scoring On
There should be a check mark next to Scoring
On.
If there is not, it isn't enabled.
Selecting A Module
To do this, select the module pull-down menu, and then select which
module to run. Selecting a module brings the writer to the module's
tutorials. Once the module's tutorials are completed, the writer
has the option of taking the module's test.
The writer also has the option of skipping
to the test, without reading the tutorials. To do this, select a
module from the Module menu, followed by Mastery Test from the Section
menu.
Printing
The end of a module test will always end by showing the writer's
score. Remember to print the score before the end of another test,
or before the Microlab is closed. Select Print Score from the File
menu.
To Quit
Select Quit from the File menu to quit the program.
