University of Arkansas at Little Rock
Policy Name: Tuition Waiver for Summer Sessions
Policy Number: 302.6 (formerly 465.0)
Effective Date: May 11, 2000
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that abuse does not occur in the future and to express fairness for all employees, both classified and non-classified.
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will allow tuition remission on a maximum of two courses (six credit hours) during the summer semester. The summer semester is defined as the entire period between the end of the spring semester and the beginning of the fall semester. A supervisor may approve tuition remission for a maximum of one course during working hours during the entire summer semester. However, no supervisor is required to grant such approval.
Under Section IV, Employee Enrollment and Work Assignment Responsibility, there is no reference to allowing courses during working hours in summer. University of Arkansas at Little Rock employees have traditionally been allowed one course during working hours in the summer. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will continue that policy, if the supervisor approves. Allowing an employee to take a course during working hours in the summer is an exception to board policy and does not have to be granted. Allowing an employee to take a course during working hours in spring and fall, though permitted under the policy, is not required at any time and supervisors are urged to grant this exception only if coverage of the employee’s responsibilities can be properly maintained.
