Policy:

As used in this policy, an advertisement is anything placed in a printed publication or on a website, including links, logos or other identifiers, that promotes, induces or encourages, directly or indirectly, commercial activity of any sort with or for the benefit of any person or entity other than the university, or that endorses or recommends directly or indirectly the products, facilities or services of any person or entity.

Paid advertising in the news media is permissible for the following purposes:

  1. To recruit prospective students.
  2. To inform the public of course offerings.
  3. To inform the public of events or performances open to the public.
  4. To strengthen the brand of the university.
  5. To advertise position vacancies.
  6. To meet requirements of state and/or federal laws.
  7. To solicit bids for construction projects, insurance coverage, purchase or sale of equipment and commodities.

All advertisements must be approved by the UALR Office of Communications with the exception of ads to advertise position vacancies, solicit bids for construction projects, insurance coverage, and purchase or sale of equipment and commodities.

  1. Faculty, staff, and student organizations must consult with and receive approval from the Office of Communications before meeting with advertising representatives and before placing advertising to ensure the best pricing and placement, appropriateness, and to make sure ads meet UALR graphic standards. The exception is the UALR student newspaper, The Forum.

All university publications, web servers and/or websites may not be used for advertising or accept advertising payments with the exception of the student newspaper, The Forum.

Any contracts with advertising or public relations firms will be negotiated by the Office of Communications.
