Dr. Corwyn is currently involved in several research projects. Corwyn’s interests are primarily child development and adolescent behavior. He has been involved with the NICHD Early Childcare Study for approximately 10 years and serves as statistical and data consultant for the Arkansas site as well as consults with several out-of-state investigators using this data. In addition, Corwyn is currently working on projects using other national data sets-including the National Longitudinal Study of Youth (NLSY), Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID), Adolescent Health (AdHealth) and the newest NLSY cohort called the NLSY97. Corwyn’s research interests include parenting (that includes fathering), the influence of the home environment on child well-being, work-family conflict, resiliency, the influence of socioeconomic status on child development and adolescent delinquency. As a tool to address these research questions, Corwyn is interested in a variety of statistical procedures such as regression, path analysis, structural equation modeling, confirmatory factor analysis and hierarchical linear modeling.
Students are always welcome to discuss research with me. Those who are interested in working on a research project, however, must be willing to devote several hours a week to research and conduct oneself in a professional manner. That means, show up for scheduled meetings and always do what you say you will do. Although research is hard work, it is also very rewarding. Moreover, research experience is invaluable in graduate school.
