The UALR Institute on Race and Ethnicity has spring internships and work study positions available for students. Interns will gain service learning experience by working on Institute projects on campus and in the greater Little Rock community. Please see job descriptions below.

Communications Assistant (credit-only internship or work study position )
This opportunity is available for the spring of 2014. The applicant must be a UALR student with appropriate skills who is interested in working on a website.

Duties and Requirements:

  • Upload content (text, photos, videos, etc.) to website
  • Write and edit articles, biographies, and other content
  • Assist Institute staff with other duties as assigned
  • Must be eligible for internship according to policy set by the College and Department in student’s major field of study

Preferred skills:

Knowledge of Internet and computer literate in common software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite. Web content posting experience is not required, bu applicant must be willing to be trained using WordPress Content Management software.

Hours: Approximately 10-20 hours per week based on student availability.

Preferred Majors: Mass Communication (RTVF;Media Production & Design) or Information Technology

Research Assistant (credit-only internship position)
Gain hands-on experience while working on research projects and working with the campus and greater community on initiatives related to race and ethnicity.

Duties and Requirements:

  • Conduct and compile research to help establish an exhaustive lists of resources
  • Assist Institute staff with projects or events, and other duties as assigned
  • Must be eligible for internship according to policy set by the College and Department in student’s major field of study

Hours: Between 10 and 20 hours per week based on student availability.

Preferred Majors: History, or other majors in the Humanities or Social Sciences

Work Study: Project Assistant (two available positions)
Seeking an office assistant who will assist the Institute with various administrative functions.

Duties and Requirements:

  • Conduct online research, filing, running errands, and responding to general inquiries
  • Answer phones, take messages, and greet visitors as needed
  • Must have been awarded Work Study through the Financial Aid office

Hours: Between 10 and 20 hours per week based on student availability.
