Student and Parent Loans

NOTE: You must be enrolled in at least half-time to receive your loan. Minimum enrollment requirements are 6 hours for undergraduate, 5 hours for graduates, and 4 hours for law students.

Loans will be received at UALR by check or an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). Students must meet all disbursement requirements before loan funds can be requested from the lender. Students receiving paper checks will be required to endorse the check before the loan check amount can be credited to the student account. Students must appear in person and must provide identification. The receipt of loan funds issued by paper check may be delayed up to 30 days after the start of the semester.

Loan funds received via EFT will be credited directly to the student’s account.

Funds for Parent (PLUS) loans must be received by either paper check or EFT. PLUS checks that require a parent endorsement will be mailed to the parent by the UALR Cashier’s Office.

A direct deposit or change check will be created for the amount of credit balance remaining after loan funds have been applied and all changes are paid.

Delayed Release of Loan Funds
All first-year students borrowing for the first time are subject to delayed disbursement. Loan funds for these students will not be released by the lender until 30 days after the first day of class.

Book Voucher and Meal Plan Programs
If the amount of financial aid credited to your student account exceeds your total UALR charges, you may use the book voucher and meal plan programs. These programs are available as long as the student has credit balance on his or her UALR account. You may charge up to $700 in books and supplies if your financial aid funds exceed your balance due by that amount. You may open a Chartwells food voucher account up to $400 if your financial aid funds exceed your balance due by that amount. The book voucher and meal plan programs are available beginning two weeks prior to the first day of classes through the 4th week of classes. Once a change check has been created, these programs are no longer available. Students may check their eligibility for these programs at
http://boss.ualr.edu.

Direct Deposit/Change Checks
If the amount of the financial aid credited to your UALR student account exceeds your total UALR charges, you will receive the difference via a direct deposit to your bank account or a “change check”, which is a UALR check made out to you. Because change checks are mailed to students, we strongly recommend that you sign up for direct deposit at
http://boss.ualr.edu. Questions about direct deposit or change checks should be referred to the UALR Cashiers or Student Accounts Office, 501-569-3450.
