Christine Provas Marinos Scholarship
Awarded to a full-time or part-time student majoring in voice, with the intention of using his/her talents in the future. Talent and financial need will be strongly considered. All things being equal, financial need will be the deciding factor.

Dora and Elly Ellsworth Music Scholarship
Awarded to a full-time or part-time UA Little Rock undergraduate music major. Priority will be given to students interested in teacher education. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be considered. Students with desire and evidence of participation in service learning and/or partnership programs sponsored by UA Little Rock may also be considered.

Eleanor Orts Francis Music Scholarship
Awarded to a full-time or part-time student who is seeking a degree in music. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered. All things being equal, academic accomplishment will be the determining factor. The scholarship is renewable. Students must reapply annually and maintain academic excellence.

Edith Willis Woodall Scholarship
Awarded to a student who is a resident of Arkansas, preference being given to applicants who reside in Marianna, Helena, or Forrest City. Must be studying piano or choral conducting, but no restriction to the type of music. Financial need, outstanding skill, and the motivation of the recipient to achieve the highest level of self-accomplishment possible will be weighed in addition to academic standing.

Hildegard Smith Scholarship
Awarded annually to students majoring in music who demonstrate the high standards of excellence which are promoted by the Little Rock Musical Coterie. Academic standing and financial need will be considered during the selection process. Recipient must also be available to perform for the Little Rock Musical Coterie on a date mutually agreed upon.

Homer T. and Betty U. Jones Opera and Vocal Arts Endowment
Awarded to full-time or part-time Music majors. Preference will be given to junior or senior level students. The recipient must be enrolled in MUEN 4150 for the fall and spring semesters. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered.

James N. Heagen Memorial Scholarship
To provide a monetary music award for the entire academic year. It is to be based on scholarship, talent, and service to the Music Department.

Joan R. Taylor Scholarship*
Awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate student. The student must have a declared major in Theatre, Music, or Art. The recipient must achieve and maintain a 3.0 GPA during the term of the scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded based on both financial need and academic success.

Josef Rosenberg Award
Awarded to an incoming senior in the Department of Music who must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 during their senior year. Recipients should demonstrate financial need and exceptional personal commitment to their education program.

Awarded to full-time or part-time students majoring in dance or dance performance. Preference will be given to freshman level students. Scholarships may apply for the below scholarships and awards annually. Applications are available from the Department of English.

Cooper Success Awards
The Cooper Success Award is granted to 2 full- or part-time students who are currently taking at least 6 hours and who have a declared major in English. To be eligible, applicants must have at least a 3.0 grade point average in English. Preference will be given to students who are not yet in the Cooper Honors Program. Financial need and potential for academic success will be strongly considered. If all things are equal, financial need will be the deciding factor. Typically, the awards are $2,500, but they may vary from year to year.

Eleanor Orts Francis English Scholarship
Awarded to full- or part-time students majoring in English. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered. All things being equal, academic accomplishment will be the determining factor. Applicants must have at least a 3.25 grade point average in English and must submit a 600-word essay discussing their personal and academic goals, academic accomplishments and financial need. FAFSA required. Scholarships will range between $500 – $1200.

Marilynn Keys Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to a junior or first-semester (non-graduating) senior English major with the highest GPA in upper level (3000 and higher) English department courses who has taken at least 21 upper level hours toward the major, at least 18 of which are UA Little Rock (non-transfer) English department courses. Ties are broken on the basis of (1) greater number of UA Little Rock English hours completed, and (2) greater number of UA Little Rock hours completed, in that order of priority. The award includes a stipend of $200.

Martha Sawrie Stephenson Endowed Scholarship*
Awarded to a full-time or part-time student who is enrolled in a minimum of six hours. The recipient must have a declared major in English, History, or Political Science. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA no lower than 2.5 and no higher than 3.5. Because the scholarship is renewable, it shall not be revoked if the student’s GPA exceeds 3.5 in subsequent years. All things being equal, extreme financial need shall be the determining factor in the selection process.

Ruth Lovett Booker Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to a full-time or part-time student majoring in English. Selection is based on academic accomplishment, and only sophomore, junior, and senior students are eligible to apply. Applicants also complete an original written submission demonstrating their ability to communicate. This scholarship is a variable amount applied to the recipient’s student account.

William G. Cooper Honors in English Scholarship
Awarded to junior or senior English majors who are academically accomplished and demonstrate serious interest and professionalism in the pursuit of the major. Each student will be responsible for an honors project and will be required to present their projects in a public forum.

AWARDS

These awards are given annually by the English Department faculty on the following criteria.

Alma K. Dougherty Award
Awarded to a student demonstrating a high degree of creative writing talent who is pursuing a degree in English with a creative writing emphasis. The student must be carrying a minimum of six hours and must be of sophomore, junior, or senior standing. The student must also have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Selection is based on the merits of the student’s creative writing projects throughout the year, as determined by the creative writing faculty. This award includes a scholarship of variable amount for the following fall semester.

Gladys K. Brown Award
Awarded to the graduating senior majoring in English with the highest GPA in UA Little Rock English courses (sophomore level or higher; transfer hours not included). The student must have been enrolled at UA Little Rock for at least 60 hours and must have taken at least 18 hours of upper-level UA Little Rock English courses. Ties are broken on the basis of (1) greater number of UA Little Rock English hours completed, and (2) greater number of UA Little Rock hours completed, in that order of priority.

Kathryn Ramsey English Award
Awarded to a student majoring in English and who has been judged by a faculty committee to have written the most outstanding interpretive essay during the year. Faculty members will recommend the best papers from their courses for consideration.

Richard Stanley Cooper Literary Award
Awarded to the student submitting the best literary effort during the current academic year, as determined by the creative writing faculty.

Roslyn L. Knutson English Award
Awarded to a full-time or part-time student majoring in English with preference given to junior and senior level students. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered.

History

Booker Worthen Fund
Awarded to a full-time or part-time UA Little Rock student majoring in history with a minimum of 80 credit hours. Award based on academic accomplishment and financial need.

C. Fred Williams Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to a full or part-time graduate student enrolled in the Public History MA program. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered.

Craig E. Powell Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a history major with a minimum of 54 credit hours, at least the last 15 credit hours taken at UA Little Rock, and a minimum GPA of 3.0. Award based on demonstration of a positive attitude towards learning and on financial need.

David O. Demuth History Scholarship
Awarded to a student who has completed at least 54 credit hours, of which the last 15 hours have been at UA Little Rock; must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 with a declared major in history. The recipient shall be selected and the award made on the basis of scholarship and potential in the field of history.

Freshour Scholarship
Awarded to a full-time graduate student in public history with either a 3.0 undergraduate GPA, if newly enrolled, or a 3.25 GPA for a continuing student.

Little Rock Nine Endowed Scholarship
Awarded to a graduate student who is focused on race relations and community development. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered. Preference given to students who demonstrate leadership potential. In addition to the scholarship application, applicants must submit two essays: one that is biographical in nature and one that focuses on career goals and a specific plan of study. Each essay should be approximately 500 words in length.

Mabel W. Formica and Santo D. Formica History Endowment
Awarded to a full-time or part-time student majoring in history.

Ruby M. Duke Ancient History Award
Awarded to a full or part-time student majoring in History with a demonstrated interest in ancient history. Students must have completed 30 hours at UA Little Rock to be considered and demonstrate academic achievement.


World Languages

Awarded to an entering freshman majoring in biology. Academic accomplishment will be strongly considered. All other criteria being equal, preference will be given to those demonstrating greatest financial need.

Awarded to a full-time or part-time student who is pursuing a masters degree in mathematics or statistics. Preference will be given to those who demonstrate academic accomplishment and are seeking a career in teaching. Special consideration will be given to students who have demonstrated strong teaching skills and service to the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, UA Little Rock, and the community.

Open to all students pursuing an undergraduate degree in mathematics. Applicants must demonstrate academic accomplishment. Financial need will be strongly considered. This scholarship is renewable; recipients must reapply annually.

Awarded to a full-time or part-time student who has completed a minimum of 12 hours credit hours in physics and astronomy courses and demonstrated an interest in the field. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be considered. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA to be considered.

Noyce STEM Scholarship and Internship
Paid internships are awarded to freshmen and sophomores majoring in a STEM field and considering the Education Minor.
