Entering Freshmen Art Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time, in-coming freshman pursuing a baccalaureate degree in art history, art studio, art education, or applied design to be used for tuition, fees, books and art materials only.

Friends of the Arts Scholarship *

Awarded to art, music, and theatre arts and dance majors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement.

Jerry Arrowood Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time or part-time UALR undergraduate majoring in art history.  The recipient must have a 3.0 GPA based on a 4.0 scale.  Financial need shall not be a consideration.

Joan R. Taylor Scholarship*

Awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate student.  The student must have a declared major in Theatre, Music, or Art.  The recipient must achieve and maintain a 3.0 GPA during the term of the scholarship.  The scholarship will be awarded based on both financial need and academic success.

Judith A. Wrappe Scholarship

Awarded to full-time or part-time art majors in their senior year; exemplifying talent and character, including artistic challenge, enthusiasm, tenacity, sense of humor, and concern for others.  Financial need shall not be a consideration.

Lori Grimes Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to full-time or part-time art majors in their junior or senior year. No student shall receive the award more than once. Financial need is not a consideration.

Wilma and Jack Diner Student Art Endowment

Awarded to a full-time or part-time student majoring in art. The recipient must have submitted a piece of artwork which was selected for presentation in the Department of Art Annual Student Competitive Exhibition. Financial need will be strongly considered.

Windgate Foundation Scholarship Fund

Awarded base on juried talent and need to any eligible part or full time art major. Freshmen are eligible to apply. Scholarship is renewable with required documentation.



English

Alma K. Dougherty Award

Awarded to a student demonstrating a high degree of creative writing talent who is pursuing a degree in English with a creative writing emphasis; selection based on the merits of creative writing projects throughout the year. The student must be carrying a minimum of six hours and must be a sophomore, junior, or senior and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Martha Sawrie Stephenson Endowed Scholarship*

Awarded to a full-time or part-time student who is enrolled in a minimum of six hours. The recipient must have a declared major in English, History, or Political Science. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA no lower than 2.5 and no higher than 3.5. Because the scholarship is renewable, it shall not be revoked if the student’s GPA exceeds 3.5 in subsequent years. All things being equal, extreme financial need shall be the determining factor in the selection process.

Roslyn L. Knutson English Award

Awarded to a full-time or part-time student majoring in English with preference given to junior and senior level students. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered.

Ruth Lovett Booker Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time or part-time sophomore, junior, or senior student majoring in English. Selection is based on academic accomplishment. Applicants must also complete an original written submission demonstrating their ability to communicate. The submission may take any form but must not be shorter than 100 words or longer than five double-spaced pages. The topic will be provided.

William G. Cooper Honors in English Scholarship

Awarded to junior or senior English majors who are academically accomplished and demonstrate serious interest and professionalism in the pursuit of the major.  Each student will be responsible for an honors project and will be required to present their projects in a public forum.



History

Booker Worthen Fund

Awarded to a full-time or part-time UALR student majoring in history with a minimum of 80 credit hours. Award based on academic accomplishment and financial need.

Craig E. Powell Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to a history major with a minimum of 54 credit hours, at least the last 15 credit hours taken at UALR, and a minimum GPA of 3.0. Award based on demonstration of a positive attitude towards learning and on financial need.

David O. Demuth History Scholarship

Awarded to a student who has completed at least 54 credit hours, of which the last 15 hours have been at UALR; must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 with a declared major in history. The recipient shall be selected and the award made on the basis of scholarship and potential in the field of history.

Freshour Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time graduate student in public history with either a 3.0 undergraduate GPA, if newly enrolled, or a 3.25 GPA for a continuing student.

Little Rock Nine Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a graduate student who is focused on race relations and community development. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered. Preference given to students who demonstrate leadership potential. An addition to the scholarship application, applicants must submit two essays: one that is biographical in nature and one that focuses on career goals and a specific plan of study. Each essay should be approximately 500 words in length.

Mabel W. Formica and Santo D. Formica History Endowment

Awarded to a full-time or part-time student majoring in history.

Martha Sawrie Stephenson Endowed Scholarship*

Awarded to a full-time or part-time student who is enrolled in a minimum of six hours. The recipient must have a declared major in English, History, or Political Science. Richard B. Dixon Scholarship

Awarded annually to history majors who have completed 54 credit hours, the last 15 at UALR, and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.  Must demonstrate academic achievement and a positive attitude toward learning.



International and Second Language Studies

Vance C. Ogden Memorial Scholarship

Recipient shall be full-time or part-time UALR student seeking a degree in the Division of International and Second Language Studies.  Preference should be given to Arkansas residents and second preference to students from Turkey.  Students must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.  Academic accomplishment and financial need will be considered equally.

Anna and George E. Kuck Scholarship

Awarded to full-time or part-time students studying voice. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be considered; however, the primary consideration will be talent and potential.

Christine Provas Marinos Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time or part-time student majoring in voice, with the intention of using his/her talents in the future. Talent and financial need will be strongly considered. All things being equal, financial need will be the deciding factor.

Dora and Elly Ellsworth Music Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time or part-time UALR undergraduate music major.  Priority will be given to students interested in teacher education.  Academic accomplishment and financial need will be considered.  Students with desire and evidence of participation in service learning and/or partnership programs sponsored by UALR may also be considered.

Dorothy Sawatski Voice Scholarship

Vocal performance talent award.

Edith Willis Woodall Scholarship

Awarded to a student who is a resident of Arkansas, preference being given to applicants who reside in Marianna, Helena, or Forrest City. Must be studying piano or choral conducting, but no restriction to type of music. Financial need, outstanding skill, and the motivation of the recipient to achieve highest level of self-accomplishment possible will be weighed in addition to academic standing.

Awarded to art, music, and theatre arts and dance majors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement.

George and Stella Smith Scholarship

Awarded to music students with financial need and musical ability.

Hildegard Smith Scholarship

Awarded annually to students majoring in music who demonstrate the high standards of excellence which are promoted by the Little Rock Musical Coterie. Academic standing and financial need will be considered during the selection process. Recipient must also be available to perform for the Little Rock Musical Coterie on a date mutually agreed upon.

Homer T. and Betty U. Jones Opera and Vocal Arts Endowment

Awarded to full-time or part-time Music majors. Preference will be given to junior or senior level students. The recipient must be enrolled in MUEN 4150 for the fall and spring semesters. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered.

James N. Heagen Memorial Scholarship

To provide a monetary music award for the entire academic year. It is to be based on scholarship, talent, and service to the Music Department.

Joan R. Taylor Scholarship*

Awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate student. The student must have a declared major in Theatre, Music, or Art. The recipient must achieve and maintain a 3.0 GPA during the term of the scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded based on both financial need and academic success.

Josef Rosenburg Award

Awarded to an incoming senior in the Department of Music who must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 during their senior year. Recipients should demonstrate financial need and exceptional personal commitment to their education program.

Music Scholarship

Talent awards are based on musical ability in an audition setting.  Renewal is based on the recommendation of the instructor.

Nell Cates Remmel Award

Based on need and ability.

Stella Boyle Smith Scholarship

Awarded to students majoring in stringed instruments, piano, or voice.  Talent awards are based on musical ability in an audition setting.

Warmack Scholarship

Awarded to students majoring in music.

Lee Asbill Johnson Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time or part-time student majoring in Philosophy and Liberal Studies. Preference will be given to junior and senior level students. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered.



Political Science

Bill Gwatney Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a full-time or part-time student majoring in political science. Preference will be given to juniors and seniors. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered. Scholarship is renewable, but the recipient must reapply annually.

James R. Garison Endowed Book Fund

Awarded to a full-time or part-time political science major. Preference will be given to junior and senior level students. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered. This scholarship is renewable but the recipient must reapply annually.

Jeffrey C. Ledbetter Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to full-time or part-time student majoring in Political Science. Preference will be given to junior and senior level students. Evidence of an interest in public service will be the primary awarding consideration. Academic accomplishment and financial need will be considered. The scholarship is renewable; the recipient must re-apply annually.

Clarence and Judy Albers Quality Writing Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to a graduate student beginning his or her first year of graduate study with a minimum of six hours of enrollment in Rhetoric and Writing with a combined emphasis in non-fiction and editing. Applicants must demonstrate academic accomplishment based on academic history and review by the selection committee of an application letter and program application writing portfolio or other writing portfolio emphasizing non-fiction writing and editing.

Oliver-Breeze-Kennedy Undergraduate Scholarship

Awarded to two established junior or senior students enrolled full-time in the Department of Rhetoric and Writing: one studying technical communication and one studying digital literacies. Applicants must supply a three-item portfolio including a full explanation of each item by the appliction deadline. Applicants must also supply a letter of appliction explaining how and why they qualify for the scholarship and how it will aid them in achieving specific career and/or educational objectives.

Professional and Technical Writing Minor Book Award

The recipient shall be a full-time or part-time student minoring in Professional and Technical Writing.  Preference will be given to sophomore-, junior- and senior-level students.  Academic accomplishment and financial need will be strongly considered.

Beth and Earl Richard Endowed Scholarship

Recipient shall be a full-time or part-time UALR student majoring in sociology/anthropology. Selection shall be based on academic accomplishment with financial need as a secondary consideration.

Stonewall Scholarship

Recipient shall be a full-time or part-time student in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences who demonstrates knowledge of GLBT history and current events, as well as leadership in advancing GLBT civil rights. The applicant should have a record of community leadership or demonstrate leadership capabilities. Academic accomplishment will be strongly considered. Financial need will also be a considered.

David S. Sherman Endowed Scholarship

Awarded to full-time or part-time students majoring in dance. Student must have and maintain a 3.0 GPA and actively contribute to the department of dance. Preference will be given to junior and senior level students. Academic achievement and financial need will be strongly considered.

Friends of the Arts Scholarship*

Awarded to art, music, theatre arts and dance majors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement.

Ike Murry Memorial Scholarship

Awarded to sophomores, juniors, and seniors majoring in theatre arts or dance. Preference will be given to students who have goals to excel as: performers, directors, choreographers, technical directors, or costume designers.

Joan R. Taylor Scholarship *

Awarded to a full-time or part-time undergraduate student.  The student must have a declared major in theatre, music, or art.  The recipient must achieve and maintain a 3.0 GPA during the term of the scholarship.  The scholarship will be awarded based on financial need and academic success.

Joel Ruminer Endowment

Awarded to a full-time student majoring in dance. Academic accomplishment and financial need are strongly considered. Preference given to freshmen students.
