M.W. Batman to C.A. Harris — December 20 1836

Fort Gibson Ak.

20th Dec 1836

C. A. Harris Esq.
Commissioner of Indian Affairs
Washington City

Sir
I have the honor to report that I am still at this place in bad health. One of the two rear parties referred to in my last X is within four miles of this place, the other still back, I know not how far. The ground is covered with snow and ice. The thermometer stands at zero. The winter has set in with great severity. The Indians must suffer much, but I hope they will all be up in a few days.

I am Sir very
Respectfully
Your obse [obedient servant]
