Advising

All students who declare social work as their major are assigned to an academic advisor in the BSW Program.

Pre-Majors (those who have not yet applied and been accepted to the BSW Program) will be assigned to a BSW Faculty pre-major advisor.

Students who have been admitted into the BSW program will be assigned to one of five full-time social work faculty for academic advising. Students are expected to maintain contact with their advisor and to schedule an appointment for advising prior to registration for classes each semester.

In addition, it is the student’s responsibility to track her/his progress toward core and social work major requirements. Prior to each advising session with your advisor, you should review the appropriate advising form:

You will also need to identify the courses you plan to take in the upcoming semester. Your advisor will discuss this form with you and put an updated copy of the form in your file after each advising session. In the spring semester of your senior year, you and your advisor will have to complete and sign a degree plan before your graduation application can be approved.
