Honors Society
Phi Sigma Tau
Phi Sigma Tau is the national honors society for philosophy. The Philosophy and Liberal Studies department is a member of this organization, allowing philosophy majors to apply to graduate with honors.
An undergraduate student at University of Arkansas, Little Rock, is eligible for active membership in Phi Sigma Tau if:
1) s/he has completed two full-time semesters of college course work or the equivalent number of course work hours for two such semesters (minimum of 24 hours); and
2) s/he has completed two semester courses in philosophy with an average GPA greater than 3.0 in those courses; and
3) s/he has an overall GPA average greater than 3.0.
Students wishing to be members of honor society must submit a directory card and pay a one-time initiation fee (currently $25) to the national office. After being received into the society at the induction ceremony, members receive a certificate, membership card, and a subscription to the society’s newsletter and student philosophy journal, Dialogue. (Copies of the latter will be sent to the department and can be picked up at the student’s convenience).
