Adding Extra Credit to the Final Grade

You can add extra credit to the final grade by creating additional columns in the grade center.  The number of columns you create, depends on how the final grade for the course is calculated.

If the final grade is based on total points earned in the course, then you will create one additional grade column.

  1. Create a regular grade column for extra credit and assign 0 points possible.
  2. Manually enter extra credit points into grade column.

If the final grade is based on a weighted total (e.g. assignments 30%, tests 40%, discussions 30%), then you will create two additional columns.

  1. Create a regular grade column for extra credit.
  2. Manually enter extra credit points into grade column.
  3. Create a calculated total column and add the weighted total column and extra credit column. This will create a final grade column.

Use the demo student to double-check the final grade column and make sure points are being totaled correctly.
