Activities

At the beginning of the Fall 2009 semester, we had a picnic with the University Science Scholars Program at Murray Park by the Arkansas River.  Scholars and their families got to meet each other, LSAMP staff, and several interested faculty and administrators.  It was a nice, sunny day and we enjoyed hamburgers, hot dogs, and watermelon.  Mr. Vernard Henley, Director of Outreach Education and Diversity for the Donaghey College of Engineering and Education Technology, even played a game of volleyball with the students!

We hosted “Pizza Friday” mid-October. In the program office and lounge, LSAMP scholars met Dr. Michael Gealt, Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics, and Dr. Tom Lynch, Associate Dean and Pre-Medical Advisor. While enjoying pizza, we discussed current classroom topics along with both good and bad midterm experiences. Corey Graham, a freshman LSAMP scholar, said with a mouthful of pizza, “we need to have more days like this!”

We also joined the University Science Scholars for a student organized potluck style Thanksgiving feast.  Dr. Lanza and Dr. Winter supplied us with delicious ham and turkey.  Students brought dishes such as hashbrown casserole, spaghetti, chicken spaghetti, and pumpkin cheesecake.  Students seemed to enjoy the feast seeing as there were not many leftovers!
