SSSI Students during the Fall 2014 Academic Awards and Retention Ceremony

Each semester, the Student Services Success Initiatives (SSSI) office hosts an academic excellence and retention celebration recognizing the students from the office’s three programs: AAMI, AAFI, and HLI. One of the goals for the initiatives is to increase the number of African American and Hispanic/Latino students who are able to maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher each semester. This past semester, we had 70 students who obtained a 2.5-2.99 GPA. Furthermore, a significant amount of program participants were able to obtain a 3.0-3.49, totaling 108 students. 57 students had a GPA between 3.5 and 3.99. Finally, the program’s highest recognition is the C.W. Donaldson Award which went to 22 students. This award is in honor former Vice Chancellor for Student Services, Dr. Charles W. Donaldson, honoring those students that obtain a 4.0 GPA for the respective semester. Our program recognizes the importance of our students having the support from their families and friends, which is why we cordially extend an invitation to each of the families of our students who will be recognized. This past event brought in over 100 guests, ranging from family, friends, and other UALR community staff. At the end of the ceremony, there was a light reception that allowed time for pictures, talking, and enjoying each other’s company. We look forward to this program each semester, as we are very proud of all our students’ achievements and enjoy being able to share their accomplishments with their family and the UALR campus community.
