How will SSS benefit me?                                                                       SSS students are afforded a built-in academic and social support system. Students receive tutoring, academic and personal counseling, academic development and instruction (reading comprehension, spelling, grammar, study skills, keyboarding, basic computer skills, Foreign Language - CD), and social interaction with other students.

Do I need to reapply for SSS each semester?                                   Once a student is accepted into SSS he/she remains a member until graduating with a BA/BS degree; however, if students “stop out” for more than one academic year, he/she may have to complete a new application.

Are grant funds/scholarships available?                                          Yes, SSS students with an unmet financial need (determined by the financial aid office), that have earned 3-59 credit hours, at least a 2.00 cumulative GPA, and who are active participants may be eligible for some Student Support Services funds. Twenty-five $500 scholarships are available for students who have a 3.00 cumulative GPA.

Why am I taking a Reading test when I only need help in math?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 The program uses the Nelson Denny Reading assessment as an identifying factor for all potential participants. The emphasis on reading is chosen to reduce obstacles to a college education and because reading comprehension is a key to developing any skill.

What are the cultural events that we would attend?                                                                                                  The SSS program offers students educational and cultural activities each semester. These activities include plays, symphonies, lectures, and visits to the film festival, the art center, the aerospace educational center and museums.
