Summer Bridge Program
SSS Summer Bridge Program: This is a program that serves as an introduction to the college experience for recently graduated high school students.
Students selected to participate in the Summer Bridge Program will be introduced to the skills necessary to be successful in college and individualized support in adjusting to the college environment.
Through this program, students can better understand the necessary transition from high school to college.
Summer Bridge Dates: May 26 - June 29,2009 July 6 - August, 7, 2009
Financial Aid Deadline: Summer II: April 1, 2009 Summer IV: June 1, 2009
Summer Bridge Application Deadline: Summer II: May 1, 2009 Summer IV: June 5, 2009
Summer Courses Summer Bridge students will enroll in two of the following college courses: (six hours total, one or both sessions)
College Reading - 3 hour course
Composition Fundamentals - 3 hour course
Elementary or Intermediate Algebra - 3 hour course
Speech Communication - 3 hour course
Seminar/Inventories Study Strategies
PEEK (Perceptions, Expectations, Emotions and Knowledge about college)
Selection Criteria–All applicants must:
- Be a high school graduate (May 2009)
- Have a Composite score of 21 or less on the ACT
- Have a ACT Reading score of 18 or less
- Have an ACT Math score of 17 or less
- Have a 2.50 high school GPA if ACT is less than 21
- Have an acceptance letter from UALR
To Qualify for the Summer Bridge Program: Students must also be:
- Low-income according to federal guide lines (to verify low-income eligibility you must submit a current copy of your parents/guardian’s 2007 1040 tax return).
- First generation college student (neither parent has a 4-year college degree
- Student with a disability
*Students receiving a Pell Grant for the summer may also receive SSS
