Please join the UALR Sustainability Committee in celebration of UALR Earth Day.
Earth Day is an opportunity to educate ourselves about ways in which we can become more sustainable on campus and/or at home. There will be numerous events including a farmers market featuring fresh, locally grown produce. Come out and support local farmers and business as well as discover ways to care for our Earth! The Forum Newspaper will host the 4th Earth Day Recycled Newspaper Fashion Show. If you haven’t seen this before, come and enjoy the amazing outfits our students make out of previous editions of UALR’s newspaper. The main event will be celebrated between the Ottenheimer Library and Student Union B on the UALR campus (RAIN OR SHINE), and other events will take place throughout Campus. Earth Day officially is celebrated in the U.S. on April 22. Come out and support our young entrepreneurs, local farmers and businesses, and also discover ways to care for our Earth!
Our Earth Day committee partnered with the Department of Art’s Typography class to develop the promotional materials for Earth Day. In the past, the committee has relied on the Communications Department or worked with individual students to provide the flyers that are used.
This semester, Professor Marjorie Williams-Smith used the project in her curriculum as somewhat of a review of what the students had learned in Graphic Design. A total of 11 students submitted work and every single piece was outstanding. The level of creativity, skill and talent here is an indication that these students can succeed. After the committee reviewed all submissions, it was determined that there would be a first, second and third place winner. First place receives a gift certificate to the bookstore for $25, second place receives $15 and $10 for third place.
Jacy Andews’ work won first place. Tiffany Partin took second place and Pamela Anderson placed third.
