TESTING SERVICES
CORRESPONDENCE
EXAMINATIONS
UALR does not offer correspondence courses, but serves as a test center for the following four universities ONLY:
If you need a proctor for some other correspondence school, here are a couple of ideas:
Contact Bob Elder in the UALR Department of Biology. He has years of experience in testing and supervises several large testing programs, and he also administers correspondence exams on occasion. His email contact is BLELDER@UALR.EDU You may also leave a message for Mr. Elder at 501-569-3514 or 501-569-3270.
Ask your correspondence school if they will approve a proctor at a library, or a high school, or at another college. There are many such facilities in the central Arkansas area.
The correspondence test schedule in the UALR Department of Testing Services generally is:
Tuesdays at 8:30 a.m.
- Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m.
- Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
While we will make every effort to meet your scheduling needs, please remember that we administer many tests to many students. Please plan ahead to have some flexibility when scheduling your test dates. Your understanding and cooperation are much appreciated. To avoid disappointment, please don't wait until the very last moment, only to find that you cannot test on the one day you had hoped for.
Sometimes we have other large testing programs scheduled that prevent us from offering correspondence tests every day that we normally would. (We typically test 700 or more examinees per month!)
On occasion, we have so many correspondence examinees who want to test at one time that we cannot accommodate them all. In that case, we will offer to schedule you on our next available date.
During our peak periods (at the beginning and end of each semester, for example), we have many students trying to come in to test. Our scheduling is much more flexible outside of these peak periods. Please bear with us!
Sometimes we must block out certain dates due to staff unavailability.
If you are having a test "overnighted" to us, please be aware that such deliveries are made to our mailroom and not directly to our office. Therefore, we may not receive your test until the next afternoon.
If you need to have your test "overnighted" back to your correspondence university, please schedule a morning appointment (so we have time to get your completed test out on that same day). Also, please tell us when you arrive, so we may complete your paperwork while you are testing. There is a significant fee for overnighting test materials.
EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2005, OUR FEE FOR CORRESPONDENCE TESTS WILL BE A MINIMUM OF $25 PER TEST.
For years, we have kept our test fees far below market demands. At $25 per test, we are still charging considerably less than many centers -- some of which charge a fee of $15 per hour or more.
Tests that are computer-based or have unusually long time limits may be charged at a higher rate. If there is an unusual postage charge (for example, FedEx or other overnight handling), the cost is added to the $25 fee. Ask the director if you have questions.
If you want to set up UALR as your correspondence testing center, follow these steps:
Note that we accept correspondence tests ONLY from UA-Fayetteville, the University of Central Arkansas, Arkansas State University, and Louisiana State University.
Ask your correspondence university to send your test to --
Cheryl Jackson, Program Advisor
- Department of Testing Services, Ross Hall 409
- University of Arkansas at Little Rock
- 2801 South University Avenue
- Little Rock, AR 72204
NOTE: It is your responsibility to request that your test be sent to UALR.
When your university informs you that your test has been mailed, call UALR Testing Services at 501-569-3198 to see if your test has arrived.
If it has arrived, set your appointment.
If it has NOT arrived, call again in a day or so to check. We must have your test materials here before confirming an appointment. Since we do not know when the test has been mailed or will be received, we cannot promise a testing date until the test is in our office. Due to the large number of tests we administer, we do not keep waiting lists or make telephone calls to tell you that your test has arrived.
On the scheduled test date, bring with you:
Official photo ID with your current legal name. The name on your ID must match the name on your test.
$25 testing fee (check, money order, or exact cash -- we do not have a cash register for changing larger bills). The $25 fee is a minimum. Some tests may cost more, depending upon how much time is necessary to prepare for, administer, and process a specific test.
Pens and/or pencils, depending upon what type of test you are taking.
Other items approved by your correspondence university. For example, some tests are open book, or permit you to use a dictionary or calculator. Information on these items should be included in your course syllabus. If you have questions, contact your correspondence instructor. UALR Testing Services cannot permit you to use any such items unless approved by your instructor.
Do NOT bring:
Cell phones, pagers, beeping watches, or other electronic devices. They are not permitted in our test rooms, even if they are turned off. Click here for more information.
Food or drinks.
Bookbags, papers, books, study guides, and other items cannot be taken into the testing room (unless the directions on your test allow you to use them). You are encouraged not to bring such items to our office. If you bring them, we will ask you to store them in a file cabinet. We cannot take responsibility for forgotten items.
Children are not permitted in the testing room. Testing Services staff cannot provide child care while you take your test.
Report to Testing Services, Ross Hall 409 at your scheduled time. Click on the appropriate link if you need information on parking or if you need a campus map.
If you have questions on the format or content of your test, or if you need information on receiving grades or returning textbooks, check directly with your correspondence university. UALR Testing Services does not grade your test or receive your grades.
Unless you have paid for expedited shipping, your completed test will be mailed back to your correspondence university on the next regular mail run from our office.
You are responsible for mailing in your assignments and returning your textbooks to your correspondence university. To keep our fees low, we ask that you take care of mailing such items.
