HESI

April 2009, Elsevier, the global publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, acquired and integrated the Elsevier Evolve Testing and Remediation product suite with the HESI A2 test.

UA Little Rock Testing Services typically administers the HESI A2 (Admission Assessment), EMS-ADN, and the LPN-ADN, but can administer any of the HESI exams.

Test availability:

Testing Services administers the HESI exams to the general public as well as UA Little Rock students. It can take up to two-weeks to order an exam, so keep this in mind when you consider your testing plans.

HESI account required

You must create an account with Elsevier prior to your test date. This account generates a username and password which are necessary to access your test on your exam date. Your test cannot be started without these two pieces. Account creation within the Testing Lab on your test day is not permitted.

Be aware that you are merely creating an account with Elsevier; you are not ordering your test through them. UA Little Rock Testing Services orders the HESI exams.

Retake

The HESI Admission Assessment (A2) exam may be taken only twice at UA Little Rock.

HESI Admission Assessment (A2)

The HESI A2 is used by many nursing programs to evaluate candidates for admission to nursing schools. UA Little Rock Nursing does not require an entrance exam unless you are an LPN who has not practiced in two years OR if you are a paramedic entering the transition program.

The A2 consists of exams on different topic areas such as:

  • Reading Comprehension
  • Math
  • Grammar
  • Vocabulary and General Knowledge
  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Physics
  • Personality and Learning Style

HESI EMS-ADN Entrance Exam

Paramedics must take the Elsevier HESI EMS-ADN Entrance Exam for admission consideration to the Department of Nursing at UA Little Rock.

The EMS-ADN is a 50-item exam designed to be used for Paramedics or EMTs seeking entrance into an ADN program. The exam identifies one’s strengths and weaknesses in ADN content areas and the possible need for remediation prior to entrance into an ADN program.

The EMS-ADN measures competencies across practical/vocation nursing content areas, including:

  • Fundamentals
  • Pediatrics
  • Psychiatric/Mental Illness
  • Maternity
  • Pharmacology
  • Medical-Surgical
  • Physical Assessment

HESI LPN-ADN Entrance Exam

LPN’s who are not recent graduates of an approved LPN program and have not worked more than 1000 hours as an LPN in the last 2 years are required to complete the Elsevier HESI LPN-ADN Entrance Exam for admission consideration to the Department of Nursing at UA Little Rock.

The LPN-ADN Entrance Exam is a 75-item comprehensive exam designed to be used for currently Licensed Practical/Vocational nurses seeking entrance into an Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program. The exam identifies one’s strengths and weaknesses in PN/VN content areas, and the possible need for remediation prior to entrance into an ADN program.

The exam measures competencies across PN/VN content areas, including:

  • Fundamentals
  • Maternity
  • Medical-Surgical
  • Pediatric Nursing
  • Professional Issues
  • Psychiatric/Mental Illness
