Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB)

The Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) evaluates advanced-level English language competence of adult nonnative speakers of English.

The MELAB is a secure test battery and is administered only by the ELI-UM and ELI-UM authorized official examiners in the United States and Canada. The MELAB consists of three parts: a composition, a listening test, and a written test containing grammar, cloze, vocabulary, and reading comprehension problems. An optional speaking test is also available. Many educational institutions in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and other countries accept the MELAB as an alternative to the TOEFL.

Some international students who are applying to UALR take the MELAB (Michign English Language Assessment Battery) test in order to demonstrate their English proficiency. Contact the UALR Intensive English Language Program at 569-3468 for more information.
