Guest Playwright “Carlyle Brown” February 22-27

carlyle-brown-600Carlyle Brown will be on-campus the week of February 22-27 as the Department’s 2015 Guest Playwright.  In connection with the Fringe Festival, Mr. Brown will conduct workshops for playwrights and directors, observe rehearsals, and work one-on-one with participants in the Festival to offer individualized feedback.  He will also guest lecture in various Department classes.  Mr. Brown has had plays produced and commissioned by Actor’s Theatre of Louisville/Humana Festival, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, the Goodman Theatre, Victory Gardens Theater, and Penumbra Theatre Company, among others, and his work has been recognized with The Black Theatre Network’s Winona Lee Fletcher Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, among other awards.  With his deep experience as a professional playwright, performer, artistic director, and teacher, Mr. Brown will be a great asset for UA Little Rock students during this residency and we are very fortunate to have him as our guest.
