There is no better or faster way to build proficiency in another language than to immerse yourself in the language and culture. For that reason, UA Little Rock language students are strongly encouraged to study abroad at least once during their undergraduate career. In addition to receiving credit for academic courses taken abroad, our students can also receive an additional three hours of experiential credit (LANG 2350, 4350; contact Dr. Andrew Deiser, Interim Chair of the Department of World Languages, at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information).
Types of Study Abroad Programs
Each summer our department provides faculty-led programs (each approximately 5 weeks) in Spain, Latin America, and France. Our students also study abroad in other programs all over the world for varying lengths of time (from 1-2 weeks to semester and academic year).
Think You Can’t Study Abroad?
Often students have financial, family or work demands that make study abroad seem impossible. World Languages faculty and the Office of Study Abroad can assist you in finding exactly the right program for your needs. The Office of Study Abroad will also help you apply your financial aid to study abroad programs and to find scholarships.
The Department of World Languages and the Office of Study Abroad are committed to helping all students study abroad. Karen Wheeler is experienced in mentoring and assisting first-generation, non-traditional, minority and disabled students to study abroad.
Ms. Wheeler and the World Languages faculty will also work closely with students new to airplane and international travel to feel comfortable and confident as they embark on this adventure of a lifetime!
