The UALR Trojan Men’s and Women’s basketball programs have become accustomed to success in recent years, and expectations are high for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
The first game for the UALR men is Friday, November 9, at the Jack Stephens Center. The women open their season at Tulsa on November 12, and face Missouri State at home on Thursday, November 15.

UALR Women Picked to Win West; Gault, Ford and Merriex Named Preseason All-SBC – The UALR women’s basketball team has been picked to win its sixth-straight West Division title in a preseason poll of the Sun Belt Conference coaches, the league office announced on Tuesday. Sophomore Taylor Gault was named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt First Team, while junior Taylor Ford and senior Janette Merriex were named to the second and third teams, respectively. Read more..

Head coach Joe Foley has led the women’s basketball team to six-straight 20-win seasons, five-straight Sun Belt West Division titles, five-straight post-season appearances, including three- straight NCAA berths, and back-to-back Sun Belt Tournament Championship titles.
The UALR men’s basketball team won the Sun Belt West Division title in 2011-12. This was the fifth title for the Trojans in nine years all under head coach Steve Shields. Shields has guided the Trojans to six championships in his first nine seasons, leading UALR to a Sun Belt Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2011.
Men’s basketball head coach Steve Shields and women’s basketball head coach Joe Foley have combined for more Sun Belt division titles over the past nine seasons than any other Sun Belt institution.
