The Arkansas Insurance Department (AID) and the Arkansas Small Business and Technology Development Center (ASBTDC) are offering training sessions for small business owners about new health insurance options and requirements.The next training opportunity is from 1 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce. The training is free, but pre-registration is required.

Janet Roderick, ASBTDC state director, said the goal is to help Arkansas small business owners understand the law and make informed choices about health insurance coverage.
“Informed Businesses: Navigating the Affordable Care Act” covers key small business provisions of the federal health care law and the new Health Insurance Marketplace, which opened Oct. 1.
Specific topics include the Small Business Health Options Program, notification and tax reporting requirements for employers, potential penalties for non-compliance and available tax credits, potential rebates and premium reduction programs.
ASBTDC will hold more than 50 training events around the state for small business owners and employees. The first session was held Sept. 18 at the ASBTDC, which is the state’s lead center and is located at the UALR College of Business. ASBTDC has regional offices at other universities around the state.
